The specified user is a local account. Local accounts should only be used in stand alone mode

Other day one of my collegues who was intsalling SharePoint 2010 for the first time was stuck on this error "The specified user somthingUserName is a local account. Local accounts should only be used in stand alone mode." he was trying to install SP 2010 as stand alone install and was using his Local account.Copule of things here firstly, service account that you are tying to install with should be a member of local Administrator group. Next,try running commands using PowerShell.Also, you would need to use to create a Content database New-SPConfigurationDatabase. Check the complete this post to get to the solution.
