Tools available to move a site or a site collection in SharePoint

I have recently used many methods to move sites and site colletcions from one web application to other and here are the list of tools and references that helped me. I will list them according to the scenarios being used in

Moving Site Colletcion from one Web Application to other

I. mergecontentdbs stsadm operation - If moving site colletcions from one database to other (from Db of one web application to other or withing same web application) use mergecontentdbs stsadm operation. See the Post Here for details.

II. SharePoint Content Deployment Wizard - The SharePoint Content Deployment Wizard is a tool for *SharePoint 2007/2010* which provides the means to deploy the following content: - site collections - webs - lists - folders - list items (including files) Content Deployment Wizard uses Migration API explained well in this post for migration.

III. DocaAve Tool - DocAve's Replication tool give you the ability to easily move a site collection form one web app to other with something as simple as Drag-drop.

Moving Sites form One Site colletcion to Other

I. The best option for moving a single site form one site colection to other is by using Export\Import command- stsadm –o export –url -filename
