Check user access for links in quick launch\Navigation - SharePoint

Today i saw a post on LearningSharePoint.com Forum about "applying audiences to sharepoint links" in quick launch and i was tempetd to write this post about authentication for links in quick launch nav.

In SharePoint 2007 - Well only kown way for SharePoint 2007 is by code. You can either create a delegate control or a custom control installed in master page which will autheticate or i should say check the authorization of the user who has loggedin and show\hide the desired links.

In SharePoint 2010 - Apart from option avaibale in SharePoint 2007, In SharePoint 2010 however you can simply use the new client object model to authorize the link. So all you have to do is either add a script in master page or anywhere on the page and then call the function to validate quick launch link right in the link itself. So how to add a link which can run a javascript fun .. check "Mike Smith's post @ SharePoint: JavaScript in Quick Launch and Top Link Bar!

Enjoy!
